Redscout MkII WIP MkII
I've nearly completed modelling and UV-ing the Redscout. Most of the detail modelling has been done, it's only really armour, the boosters and the gun to finish.
Like the Blitz Panther it has a segmented body, but I've really gone to town with the pistons, to give it a sense of strength in its movement and posing.
I've tried to build a strong silhouette out of overlapping shapes. It's easy to make a form that look like a primary shape with smaller shapes slapped on, which always looks crap. Here I've tried to design something that really feels like an assembly of components that fit together. Like an engine that just happens to be in the form of a squirrel.
A squirrel's feet are more-or-less opposable, so I've designed the feet with enough articulation to wrap around objects.
The legs are somewhat modular, and you'll see similar shapes across the fore and hind legs, as well as the tail. This makes modelling much faster, but also helps to reinforce a design language across the Zoid.
You'll notice similar vents, tubes, joints and supporting struts sprinkled all over the Zoid for the same reason. It really ties everything together.
The most obvious example is this joint disk/puck thing. There is a spherical version for the ball joints found in the neck and waist. It gives the red caps prominence, ever so important in Zoid design.
The Redscout now has a bunch of things to help with the 'scout' role. Namely, the antennae on it's ears and tail. These can retract when running. It's also got a decent-sized gun on its back but it's a last-resort kind of thing. The Redscout really prefers to stay out of combat.
